Waltz Classes

For newcomers who want to learn the basics of folk waltz and experienced dancers who want to boost their skills and repertoire, Waltz Time offers a variety of lesson series and one-off workshops at Glen Echo Park and other DC-MD-VA venues. Scroll down to find out about our beginner/intermediate four-class series, intermediate/advanced four-class series, and any special workshops. Students enrolled in a class series benefit not only from improved abilities but also $5 admission to the Glen Echo Waltz Time social dances for the duration of the series. Questions? Beginner/Intermediate Four-Class Series

This series is for both beginners and dancers with some waltz experience. After introducing/reviewing basics, we focus on partnering skills for leads and follows as well as expanding your repertoire. Anyone can lead; anyone can follow. Ideal for social waltzing, date night, wedding dance preparation, or meeting new active people. This class series is available at:

  • GLEN ECHO PARK: Fridays, January 9, 16, 23, and 30 in the Spanish Ballroom -- please dress warmly! Arrive at 6:30pm for class 6:45pm – 8:00pm. Tuition $45 (plus usual Glen Echo registration fee). Drop-ins welcome for individual classes $17. Registration link for January 2026 Classes.
  • GLEN ECHO PARK: Thursdays, March 5, 12, 19, and 26 in the Hall of Mirrors. Arrive at 7pm for class 7:15pm – 8:30pm. Tuition $45 (plus usual Glen Echo registration fee). Drop-ins welcome for individual classes $17. Registration link for March 2026 Classes will be provided when available.
  • GLEN ECHO PARK: Fridays May 1, 8, and 15 in Hall of Mirrors and May 22 in BallRoom Back Room. Arrive at 6:30pm for class 6:45pm – 8:00pm. Tuition $45 (plus usual Glen Echo registration fee). Drop-ins welcome for individual classes $17. Registration link for March 2026 Classes will be provided when available.

Intermediate/Advanced Four-Class Series

This intermediate/advanced series is for those who are comfortable with the skills and moves taught in our beginner/intermediate series or who have attended at least four of the regular Sunday social waltzes and are ready to move to the next level. The series will focus on introducing more challenging moves, improving two-way communication between follows and leads, achieving greater musicality, and building your repertoire to interpret different tempos and styles of music. Learn skills that make waltzing in a social dance setting more fun! Anyone can lead; anyone can follow. This class is available at:

  • GLEN ECHO PARK: Fridays, August 7, 14, 21, and 28 in the Hall Of Mirrors. Arrive at 6:30pm for class 6:45pm – 8:00pm. Tuition $45 (plus usual Glen Echo registration fee). Drop-ins who are at the Intermed-Adv social waltz level are welcome for any individual class ($17). Registration link for August Int-Adv Classes will be provided when available.
