Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts & Culture seeks a full-time Dance & Events Program Director. This position is responsible for leading, managing and developing Glen Echo Park’s social dance program, dance and movement instruction, and festival/concert performance programming activities. The Dance & Events Program Director will
work with existing social dance presenters to produce events, plan Glen Echo Park produced dances and other festivals and music events, and actively plan the revitalization and growth of programming in these areas.

The Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture is a Bethesda area nonprofit organization that operates arts programs and facilities at Glen Echo Park, a National Park located in Montgomery County. Glen Echo Park is a community of artists, educators, dancers, and performers who share their knowledge and expertise with
participants and audiences of all ages and skill levels. The Partnership is dedicated to encouraging public participation in all that the Park has to offer.

Key Responsibilities: The Dance & Events Program Director will take the lead in developing the Park’s social dance and public events program to its fullest potential, recruiting new dancers, keeping programming exciting, exploring interesting partnerships, bringing new diverse dance and musical styles, and cultivating exciting events that generate revenue and bring in new audiences while maintaining strong existing partnerships.

Social Dance Events
• Manage and oversee social dance events in the Spanish Ballroom, Bumper Car Pavilion and Ballroom Backroom venues.
• Conduct annual Request for Proposal process, with administrative support from the Events and Venue Manager, to solicit new co-presenting partners.
• Determine Partnership sponsored event dates and content with the goal of broadening dance offerings, and ensuring the Partnership develops capacity as a presenting organization for dance and music.
• Refine and implement evaluation process for social dance program events.
• In conjunction with the Events and Venue Manager, coordinate on a regular basis with dance presenters.
• Work with the Events and Venue Team and other program staff to manage the master events calendar.
• Develop, in partnership with others (both resident and non-resident partners), educational and performance opportunities using visiting musicians and dancers.
• Establish strong connection between social dance classes and social dance events to cultivate audiences.
• Coordinate with the Events and Venue Manager, facilities staff and hall managers to ensure all arrangements and staffing for dances, concerts and other events are in place.
• Attend and act as venue manager at major dance events.
• Be available after hours to troubleshoot any dance, concert or event issues by phone.

Festivals and Concerts
• Working with the Partnership Leadership Team, and a booking agent, identify, plan and book performances for summer concert series and annual gala.
• Plan, book and manage performances at all public festivals, including Carousel Day, Echo Arts Festival, and others. Coordinate logistics with other venue management and program staff.
• Support any other needs/requests for performing artists at Partnership-run events by planning and booking as needed (e.g. member/donor events, etc.).
• Work with dance program partners, booking agent (as needed), resident groups and fellow staff to determine best opportunities for upcoming season of festivals and dance.

Dance and Movement Classes
• Oversee Park offerings of social dance as well as other dance and movement classes (to include Hall of Mirrors instruction space and Arcade building classrooms) to offer robust options that appeal to new dancers as well as long-time students.
• Hire new instructors and review class proposals from outside instructors.

Business Management & Marketing
• Review Partnership strategic plan goals and develop a three-year plan to evolve the dance program.
• Gain a full understanding of partnership relationships within Glen Echo Park, including Montgomery County and National Park Service relationships and requirements.
• Develop and manage annual budget for social dance, music and festival events.
• Work with Development Department to help secure sponsorship or grant funding for dances and events.
• Explore new revenue and audience growth opportunities related to these dance and event programs.
• Build connections between overall park activities and the social dance program.
• Build committed volunteer base for ushering at social dance events.
• Work with marketing staff on the promotion of dance events and festivals.
• Coordinate with marketing staff and implement targeted marketing efforts for social dance program, dance classes and special events/concerts.

Candidate Requirements
• Minimum of 5 years experience required in dance and/or event programming with knowledge of a variety of social dance forms
• Proven experience working in the performing arts with dance organizations and performers
• Must have relationships in the social dance and/or performing arts community in the DC area
• Familiarity with artist booking contracts, performing arts budgets, marketing and ticket sales
• Experience negotiating performer fees in a variety of situations
• Financial management and budgeting experience relating to performing arts
• Supervisory skills and experience required
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in performance arts or related field; Master’s degree preferred

Additional Skills Required
• Excellent computer skills (preferably familiar with Mac) and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and internet use
• Excellent communication skills both written and oral
• Social media experience and knowledge of current dance social media networks
• Strong organizational skills and task management with the ability to work independently
• Ability to exercise sound professional judgement and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, clients, partners and vendors
• Current COVID-19 vaccination required. Onsite staff must adhere to CDC and state health guidelines

This is a permanent full-time exempt position, 40 hours per week. Regular hours for this position are Tuesday through Saturday with evening and weekend hours required to supervise and interact with dance events and festivals. More intensive weekend hours required for festivals and Glen Echo Park produced events. This position will be required to work weekends and evenings as events require and sometimes with short or limited notice, therefore hours will vary but not exceed an average of 40 hours per week. Compensatory time will be given in the same month for event time worked if work hours exceed 40 hours per week.
Salary: $65,000 to $75,000 range dependent upon experience
• 2 weeks paid vacation annually, increases after 12 months employment

Physical and Other Requirements
Must be able to provide own transportation, including during hours when public transportation is not operating. This role includes a variety of tasks, which are generally physical in nature, sometimes requiring handling equipment and material in excess of 40 lbs. Must be able to climb ladders and move equipment such as folding chairs and tables. Must be able to walk or stand on your feet up to 90% of the event while working in a multi-facility environment with extensive park grounds and a variety of facilities both historic and renovated. Many of the buildings have stairs. Must speak fluent English to engage patrons.
